🔧 Tool 1: C’est vs Il est

Think of these as twins who look similar but have different jobs!

👉 C’est = “This is” / “It’s” (for IDENTIFYING)

Use C’est when you’re pointing at something or someone and saying “This is…”

Pattern Example Meaning
C’est + noun C’est un livre. It’s a book.
C’est + name C’est Marie. This is Marie.
C’est + adjective C’est beau! It’s beautiful!

🌟 The Secret Rule

C’est always comes with a determiner (un, une, le, la, mon, etc.) or a name!

👉 Il est / Elle est = “He is” / “She is” (for DESCRIBING)

Use Il est / Elle est when describing someone’s job, nationality, or characteristics without an article.

Pattern Example Meaning
Il est + profession Il est médecin. He is a doctor.
Elle est + nationality Elle est française. She is French.
Il est + adjective Il est intelligent. He is smart.

⚡ Quick Compare

✅ C’est ✅ Il est
C’est un médecin. Il est médecin.
C’est une Française. Elle est française.
C’est mon ami Pierre. Il est gentil.

💡 Memory Trick: If you need an article (un/une/le/la), use C’est. No article? Use Il/Elle est!
